1 Yonge Street will be designed by Hariri Pontarini, a Toronto-based architectural firm that will bring their award winning design aesthetic to One Yonge Condos. This is the same firm which has designed such landmark condos as the Shangri La, the Masey Tower and One Bloor East.
A Much Needed Update
The Stretch beginning at Yonge and Queens Quay to Lower Jarvis has been left relatively untouched. This planned redevelopment of One Yonge Street will include an update to the entire Toronto Star Lands.
The Toronto Star building will remain in its place; however the entire outer façade will be updated and replaced to modernize the building. The remaining land will be developed in five to six stunning high rise towers ranging between 60 and 95 storeys tall. A planned redevelopment just east of One Yonge will include the LCBO lands and parking lot being transformed into a mixed use space as well.
1 Yonge Street will breathe new life to the already bustling waterfront district. It is rare to see an entire stretch of land such as this being redeveloped at the same time. This level of redevelopment is sure to transform the Yonge-Queens Quay intersection into a major hub for Toronto’s Waterfront. The proposed public park just east of One Yonge will be a sight to behold when completed.
World Class Pedestrian Experience
One Yonge Street and its surrounding area will transform the Yonge Queens Quay intersection to one full of lively pedestrian traffic. Among the proposed developments are:
- A proposed city of Toronto public park, complete with centerpiece water fountain and landscaped greenery.
- A proposed direct connection to Toronto’s underground PATH system, allowing seamless underground travel to Union station, without ever going outside.
- A 17 Metre pedestrian promenade in that will surround the project.
- Over 800,000 square feet of Ground and above ground retail space including shops, restaurants, and office space, driving even more pedestrian traffic to the area.
- Finally, the Yonge-Queens Quay corridor has a walk score of 93 and a transit score of 100. The walk score is expected to rise to 100 upon competition of the project and it’s included pedestrian improvements.
